Claire Vo spent fifteen years as a product executive, then built a company that does her old job for other people. She is the founder and chief executive of ChatPRD, an AI writing and review tool for product managers that she launched in November 2023 as a side project and now runs full-time, bootstrapped, with more than 100,000 users and no venture capital.
She is also the host of How I AI, the first show in the Lenny's Podcast network, and the most cited working example of a founder who genuinely delegated operations to AI agents rather than talking about it.
Three CPO jobs before the company
Vo began in product and user experience roles at Electronic Arts, BuildASign, and uShip, then co-founded and ran Experiment Engine, a venture-backed A/B testing company Optimizely acquired in 2017. She stayed on through the acquisition and rose to chief product officer at Optimizely.
Color Health came next, where she led engineering, product, design, and data for roughly three years including through the pandemic. In January 2024 LaunchDarkly hired her as chief product officer, a role that expanded to chief product and technology officer. She has since left to run ChatPRD full-time. Her own summary of the résumé is blunter than the titles suggest: she began with a liberal arts degree in American Studies from the University of Texas and worked her way to running technology organizations.
The company she built on the side
ChatPRD began as a custom GPT in November 2023. Vo has described the test she set for it plainly: she does not keep hobbies that fail to make money, so she put a payment form in front of a free GPT and waited to see whether a stranger would pay a dollar. Within six months it was producing six figures in revenue while she still held an executive job.
She has been consistent that this was not luck. Her advice to people asking how to replicate it, delivered as a joke that is not really a joke, is to start five years ago building an audience and twenty years ago building expertise. The product succeeded because a working three-time CPO knew exactly what a good PRD looks like and what reviewing one requires, and encoded that judgment into a tool. Her stated ambition is for ChatPRD to become the chief product officer in every company that cannot hire one.
Managing nine agents like a team
Vo's most widely discussed work is operational rather than product. She runs her business and household with nine specialized AI agents, each with its own identity, tools, and remit, running on Mac Minis and old laptops. Polly handles executive assistant work with her own inbox and calendar. Sam works inbound sales. Findlay handles family logistics.
Her design principle inverts the usual instinct. Rather than one large agent with access to everything, she built nine small ones that improve within a narrow scope. She granted access on a progressive trust ladder she described to Business Insider: calendar visibility, then email visibility, then drafting and sending, then autonomous work. Her summary of the whole practice is that managing agents is just management, which is why a career product and engineering leader was well positioned to figure it out first.
She also keeps the accounting honest. On the value of the setup she has said there is a ten times multiple on the revenue and a hundred times multiple on her happiness, which is a more useful metric than most productivity claims in this category. Our playbook on AI marketing for small business uses her operation as a worked example of what agent leverage looks like when someone actually ships with it.
How I AI and the teaching side
Vo launched How I AI in April 2025 as the first show in Lenny Rachitsky's podcast network. The format is practical rather than speculative: operators demonstrate the AI workflows they use, on screen, with the actual tools. She also teaches a Maven course on building an AI-native engineering, product, and design organization.
The teaching work feeds the company and the reverse is also true. ChatPRD's growth has been organic and word-of-mouth from the start, and a founder who publishes a weekly demonstration of AI workflows to a product management audience is running distribution and research at the same time.
Frequently asked questions
What is Claire Vo best known for?
Founding ChatPRD, a bootstrapped AI product management tool with more than 100,000 users, and running it with nine AI agents as the only full-time human. She is also known as a three-time chief product officer and as the host of the How I AI podcast.
Where did Claire Vo work before ChatPRD?
She co-founded Experiment Engine, which Optimizely acquired in 2017, then served as chief product officer at Optimizely, chief product and technology officer at Color Health, and chief product officer and later CPTO at LaunchDarkly. She joined LaunchDarkly in January 2024 and has since left to run ChatPRD full-time.
What are Claire Vo's nine AI agents?
Nine specialized agents covering business and personal work, each with a name, a scope, and its own tools. Publicly named ones include Polly for executive assistant tasks, Sam for inbound sales, and Findlay for family logistics. She manages them the way a manager runs direct reports.
Is ChatPRD funded?
No. It is bootstrapped with no venture capital and generates six figures in annual revenue. Vo has never published a precise revenue number, so any specific ARR figure attributed to the company is unverified.
Where can I follow Claire Vo?
She posts on X at @clairevo and on LinkedIn, and publishes How I AI through Lenny's Newsletter and YouTube. Her personal site carries stale legacy content and is not a good source for current work.
